Violence Against Older Persons

The Team of De-pals Care Foundation in Ilorin, Kwara State today June 15, 2023 celebrate "the World Elder Abuse Day" with the elders in Ilorin metropoly at De-pals Aged home and care activities centre at Coca Cola Road opposite Babaode Central Mosque Ilorin.
While addressing the Elderlies and young people present, the CEO De-pals Care Foundation Hajiya Asmau Bimpe Yusuf stated that today is set aside by United Nation to create awareness on the issue of violence against elderly people. She said the government hold any issue concerning older people in high esteem and the is why federal government created a parastartal (NSCC) to look into the affairs of older citizens and violence against older people is also part of NAPTIP mandate.
Hajiya Asmau reaffirmed, that there is law *"Violence Against persons prohibition" Act 2015.* Operationalized by NAPTIP. She said, the Act criminalises Abuse / Violence and prosecutes the abusers. She said Older persons have been mainstreamed as targets and urged people desist from any form of Abuse against humanity and to report any form of Abuse to NAPTIP or NSCC office close to them or call NAPTIP lines for rapid rescue response, remedy and to seek redress.
The elders were entertained with local music and lots of food and healthy drinks. Many of them also went home with gift.
